Change the Function Key Timeout (Windows 95/98/Me) Category: Home > Tips and Tricks > Configuration Files > MSDOS.SYS
Windows normally enables the function keys during the boot sequence for 2 seconds, these keys allow you to control the boot process. The duration can be changed using this tweak. Change the attributes for MSDOS.SYS so it is not 'Read Only', MSDOS.SYS is found in the root directory of your C:\ drive. Open the file using Notepad or another text editor (not Microsoft Word or any word processor). Change the value of 'BootDelay=' to a value representing the number of seconds to make the keys available. e.g. To enable the keys for 5 seconds change the value to 'BootDelay=5' Changes will take place on the next reboot.
